Review JavaScript Fundamentals by Building a Gradebook App

I keep getting this message: Your function call of studentMsg([92, 88, 12, 77, 57, 100, 67, 38, 97, 89], 37) should return the following message: “Class average: 71.7. Your grade: F. You failed the course.”.

This is my code:

function getAverage(scores) {
  let sum = 0;

  for (const score of scores) {
    sum += score;
  }

  return sum / scores.length;
}

function getGrade(score) {
  if (score === 100) {
    return "A++";
  } else if (score >= 90) {
    return "A";
  } else if (score >= 80) {
    return "B";
  } else if (score >= 70) {
    return "C";
  } else if (score >= 60) {
    return "D";
  } else {
    return "F";
  }
}

function hasPassingGrade(score) {
  return getGrade(score) !== "F";
}

function studentMsg(totalScores, studentScore) {
  if (hasPassingGrade) {
    return "Class average: " + getAverage(totalScores) + ". Your grade: " + getGrade(studentScore) + ". You passed the course.";
    } else if (hasPassingGrade === "F") {
      return "Class average: " + getAverage(totalScores) + ". Your grade: " + getGrade(studentScore) + ". You failed the course.";
    }
}
console.log(studentMsg([92, 88, 12, 77, 57, 100, 67, 38, 97, 89], 37));

What does your code return for that function call?

Can you please provide a link to the problem you are working on?

I’ve edited your code for readability. When you enter a code block into a forum post, please precede it with a separate line of three backticks and follow it with a separate line of three backticks to make it easier to read.

You can also use the “preformatted text” tool in the editor (</>) to add backticks around text.

See this post to find the backtick on your keyboard.
Note: Backticks (`) are not single quotes (').

This doesn’t seem right. Do you need to pass a value to this function?

Sorry my first time posting here. And yes it was the parameter in the if statement. I figured out thanks for replying
