Step 131 JavaScript Algorithms and Data Structures (Beta)

I am stuck and cannot figure out why my code will not work. Any suggestions? Thank you!

step 131:
Your locations array doesn’t have a fifth element, so locations[4] doesn’t work.

Add a new object at the end of the locations array, following the same structure as the other objects. Set name to "kill monster", set "button text" to an array with three "Go to town square" strings, set "button functions" to an array with three goTown variables, and set text to "The monster screams Arg! as it dies. You gain experience points and find gold.".

{
    name: "town square",
    "button text": ["Go to store", "Go to cave", "Fight dragon"],
    "button functions": [goStore, goCave, fightDragon],
    text: 'You are in the town square. You see a sign that says "Store".',
  },
  {
    name: "store",
    "button text": [
      "Buy 10 health (10 gold)",
      "Buy weapon (30 gold)",
      "Go to town square",
      "You enter the store.",
    ],
    "button functions": [buyHealth, buyWeapon, goTown],
    text: "You enter the store.",
  },
  {
    name: "cave",
    "button text": ["Fight slime", "Fight fanged beast", "Go to town square"],
    "button functions": [fightSlime, fightBeast, goTown],
    text: "You enter the cave. You see some monsters.",
  },
  {
    name: "fight",
    "button text": ["Attack", "Dodge", "Run"],
    "button functions": [attack, dodge, goTown],
    text: "You are fighting a monster.",
  },
  {
    name: "kill monster",
    "button text": [
      "Go to town square",
      "Go to town square",
      "Go to town square",
    ],
    "button functions": [goTown, goTown, goTown],
    text: "The monster screams Arg! as it dies. You gain experience points and find gold.",
  },
];

Please post a link to the Step. Thanks

Remove the trailing coma after gold. Remove also the coma from last “Go to town square”

Hey Wizard, I tried that but it still says “Sorry, your code does not pass.
Your locations array should have five values.”. See modified code below. Thank you.

 const locations = [
 {
    name: "town square",
    "button text": ["Go to store", "Go to cave", "Fight dragon"],
    "button functions": [goStore, goCave, fightDragon],
    text: 'You are in the town square. You see a sign that says "Store".',
  },
  {
    name: "store",
    "button text": [
      "Buy 10 health (10 gold)",
      "Buy weapon (30 gold)",
      "Go to town square",
      "You enter the store.",
    ],
    "button functions": [buyHealth, buyWeapon, goTown],
    text: "You enter the store.",
  },
  {
    name: "cave",
    "button text": ["Fight slime", "Fight fanged beast", "Go to town square"],
    "button functions": [fightSlime, fightBeast, goTown],
    text: "You enter the cave. You see some monsters.",
  },
  {
    name: "fight",
    "button text": ["Attack", "Dodge", "Run"],
    "button functions": [attack, dodge, goTown],
    text: "You are fighting a monster.",
  },
  {
    name: "kill monster",
    "button text": [
      "Go to town square",
      "Go to town square",
      "Go to town square"
    ],
    "button functions": [goTown, goTown, goTown],
    text: "The monster screams Arg! as it dies. You gain experience points and find gold."
  },

I am sorry but the way you are posting your code it is hard to read. You need to use the tool to preserve format. It looks you are adding extra comas and also you are missing semicolon.

Welcome to the forum @Jmardis11

Use the following method to post code to the forum:

  1. On a separate line type three back ticks.
  2. On a separate line paste your code.
  3. On the last line type three back ticks. Here is a single back tick `

Happy coding

the button text property should have three elements not four

I fixed that. My updated code is below. I am lost as to why this will not work. It keeps saying “Sorry, your code does not pass. Keep trying. Your locations array should have five values.” I have tried removing comas and submitting than prettier auto corrects to add comas. Any suggestions?

    name: "town square",
    "button text": ["Go to store", "Go to cave", "Fight dragon"],

that code passes too

Why is it not passing on my end you think? I am using the exact code

I just realized you can move forward to the next step even if it doesn’t pass so I will keep moving forward. Thank you all for the help!!
