Tips on how to make your local FCC Meetup successful?

Hello, not sure if this question has been asked before, I tried to look around but unfortunately could not find anything. I recently started a meetup group in my city, and I am looking for some tips in how to get my Meetups more friendly and get more people to attend. What are some of the things that worked for you, as far as covering the material and getting more people involved?

Thanks in advance, and happy new year everyone!

The woman that runs our one in Melbourne wrote this yesterday.

She includes some of what worked and didn’t work for us.

I think lightning talks work great and break the ice. In the early days the meetups without talks were kinda dead, but talks always drew a better crowd and got people talking. I committed to doing a talk whenever the organiser couldn’t get anyone else to

We also meet every two weeks, which is great for consistency and getting to know people.
