Hi @fredaw !

There are a lot a great conversions on this topic in the forum that I would suggest you read through.
I would use the link that @gaac510 gave you.

There are also great resources in the FCC news that provide good advice as well.

One of the common things you will hear in those discussions is that it is hard to get that first job.

Which makes sense.

A lot of people are competing for that first job.

There might be a lot of things that you can’t control in the job process but you should just focus on what you can control.

You can control if you put together a good resume or not
You can control if you put together a strong portfolio or not
You can control if choose to network with developers or not.

I will also pass along some advice that a mentor once told me.

She said “if you really want a dev job, you have to find a way to stand out from the crowd”

And that makes total sense.

If you are just filling out applications online then it will be really hard to break through the crowd.
Most times you will just be another application in a sea of applications.

You want to make sure your work stands and doesn’t blend in with everyone else portfolio.

Don’t list the same projects that everyone else does.
Create projects that help you stand out.

It is also important that you are involved in the developer community to increase you chances of getting noticed and seen.

I would suggest attending meetups, conferences, discords, chats, forums, twitter, etc.
Connect with other developers.

Hope that helps!
