When I first started to teach myself how to code, I wasn’t sure what type of projects I wanted to create. I took one day off to think about and wrote down the things I cared about. For me, I care a lot about health and wellness.
I have not been officially diagnosed with this, but I know for sure that I have symptoms of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder(PMDD). Most period tracking apps will mainly track physical symptoms that would indicate that your period coming soon. However, I feel that there should be a period tracker app that also tracks your mental health. For the longest time, I questioned why I would feel extremely depressed or irritable the week before my period came, feel normal-ish when it started, and feel full of energy the day after it ends. Had I not recorded my symptoms everyday, I would have assumed that I had a completely different issue.
I plan on making a wellness app for women that includes symptoms PMDD because I know that their are women and adolescent girls out their that probably have no idea if their mood swings are related to their cycle. Having an app were they can record how they are feeling (physical and mental) can be a helpful tool not only for them, but for therapists and psychiatrists who need to give them a proper treatment plan.
So far, I taught myself how to apply the radio buttons to smiley face icons so that I can make a daily mood intake. It looks ugly because I didn’t apply any CSS, but I’m still proud of myself for making!
What is your passion project and why is it important to you? I wanted to make this post because I feel that these two questions help newbies like me find out right away what kind of projects they want to make. I’m thankful that we have websites like freecodecamp, which is why I want to pay it forward and pose these questions to help aspiring web developers.
I love this, let me know if you’d like some help on it. I don’t have any passion project in mind at the moment. I’m still stuck on getting my personal website how I won’t it. I don’t know if I’ll ever get there, haha.
Are you currently working on your portfolio website? I’m starting to work on my landing page. Maybe I can help you out, too! What issues are you having with your website?
Well I have it up and running but there’s still some kinks I need to work out. Like on my about page I need to make it responsive and the header links only work on the home page. It’s pretty easy fixes for most things I think. Have a look and let me know what you think. I appreciate any constructive criticism. katpoythress.epizy.com
Hi there! Sorry I couldn’t get back to you in time. Currently, there’s a power outage in my area. I couldn’t use my phone or laptop. I’ ll take a look at you site a and I’ll respond as soon as I can.
Hi, @kat-coder! I know you weren’t asking me but I clicked on the link out of curiosity. I’m a complete beginner (still on the ‘Applied Accessibility’ lessons of the first course) and haven’t started any projects yet so I don’t really have any insightful observations. I really love the background effect where hovering changes the size and opacity of the circles, it’s super cool! If I could offer some feedback, it would be that the parts in pink i.e. your name and the icons don’t show up very well. I think a more bright version of the same color would make it stand out since you would want your name to be the focus on the page. I hope this helps
Hi @s_kosaria! The background is particles.js. There are several different ones in the library like stars and galaxy. You can modify it to your liking.
You are learning alot in the applied accessibility lessons . I probably need to go back and review them, I work on the lessons off and on and its been I while since I’ve done those. I will change the colors in my name and icons to something brighter. When I made the site live I noticed up that the colors showed up differently depending on the device.
I’ve tried this course twice before but I always give up after a few days, perhaps having a passion project would really help in keeping me on track. Just have to figure out what it would be now, thank you for sharing yours with us
@mcouyoute1 I love your idea and think it’s brilliant! I am also interested in helping the mental health field. I’m not entirely sure how I’d like help people with mental health through coding but it’s really nice and inspiring to see that you have found a way to do just that. I wish you the best in pursuing your dreams!
