Hi everyone — learning to code can feel overwhelming because there are so many possible things to focus on: projects, frameworks, portfolios, interviews, networking, and now AI tools too.
For people who have been through this stage, what helped you become more job-ready early on, and what do you think beginners often spend too much time worrying about?
I got job-ready by making projects for people I knew–and they genuinely used it for their businesses. You have to prove your projects have a place in the market I think. I think when you start, you get overwhelmed because you hear you have to learn so many different things, but focusing on passion projects helps a lot.
There are many pathways in tech. Each pathway has its own frameworks, libraries, and languages. Start by looking at each eco-system, what it can do, and where your passions lie. There are lots of summaries available online.
This will help you narrow down which pathway to follow. Then talk to recruiters and potential employers about the hard and soft skills they are looking for.
Networking is the main way of getting hired as a beginner.
