I don´t think it´s cringe. There is no shame in being proud of your work.
Just ask the customer if it´s allright for them too.
According to the MDN:
" A <footer> typically contains information about the author of the section, copyright data or links to related documents."
I think the “information about the author” includes the "designed by … " idea.
