When to use a period or a hashtag(#)?

So, This challenge asked me to shake very even(nth) target but why does the target selector need to begin with a . instead of a # because it is an ID and not a class.

Because # means “look for this id” and . means “look for this class”.

Yes, but I only have target set as an ID. Maybe I’m just confuesed by I don’t see target set anywhere as a class but when it comes to making every even element animate I have to begin the selector with .target instead of #target.
