Why is "aria-labelledby" in British English, while other things are in American English?

The attribute “aria-labelledby” is in British English because the word “labelled” has double L’s, while in American English the word “labeled” has a single L. The point is that other elements and attributes are in American English, so why is there such a contrast with that particular attribute?
