Why Shouldn't I Go To College Right Now

This comes up a lot - Getting a technical degree is the best way to increase your chances of getting a technical job. It’s a credential that hiring managers understand and it builds the skills you need for these sorts of jobs.

That said, not everyone is ready to college. Lots of folks come onto the forums looking for reasons they can skip on college and go right to the ‘real world’. Here you go; I’m giving you some reasons to skip college:

  1. College is expensive. You need to make sure that cost will benefit you.
  2. College is hard. You need to be ready to work to get its benefits.
  3. It’s easy to get lost. Without a plan, its easy to just take classes that don’t lead somewhere.

If you don’t want to go to college, you probably shouldn’t. If you aren’t ready for college, that’s ok. It’s expensive, difficult, and overwhelming. It’s easy to spend a lot of money not working towards your possibly unclear end goals.

But if you have a plan, are ready to work, and can afford it, I’ll recommend college as a way to start a technical career.
