Hi Team, I’m considering using freeCodeCamp as the platform to run mentor assisted bootcamps. To make that easier I’ll like to contribute the implementation of features that support the creation and support of cadres and classes. My concern is that the development of those features will require a good amount of work that can’t be implemented on a small number of PRs.
I found a classroom repo that seems to be targeted to build this type of features, however there doesn’t seem to be a lot of activity on that repo.
How will committers prefer to handle feature contributions for this area. My concern is that this is a significant amount of features that will require many MRs and wont provide the full functionality until many of the features are complete. The options I can think of are:
1 - Contribute to the Classroom repo and continue that work to build out the features as a separate app
2- Request that we create anew repo to reset that work and begin anew
3 - Contribute to the main repo by:
3.1 - Using feature flags to hide new features and commit them on small batches
3.2 - Submit MRs to the main repo and not add the front end changes that will expose those features
3.3 - Do all the work in one branch and do a pull request at the end that contains all the changes.
Any guidance from the committers team will be greatly appreciated.
For reference below are the kind of features I was thinking about:
- Create teacher role for members
- Class management tools
- Create/manage class
- Invite members to class
- Define class time milestones (map to courses and certifications)
- View student participation (attendance? Block completion?)
- Review student Quizzes? and Projects progress and provide feedback
- Message students
- Student tools
- Accept invitation per class
- Revoke participation
- Submit Quiz? or Project for review
- View feedback
- Message teacher
