class is an attribute just like href is an attribute. It goes inside the opening tag of the element.

okay, so would it look like <div.menu>

Nope. Look at how you add href attribute to the anchor tag…. class is an attribute just like it.

thank you i reviewd the post. so why did they give us the as a reference .class-name{ styles } if its an attribute and needs to be formatted like class= word

The .class-name {} is css code that targets elements of this class name. The code being written here in this step though is just html (not css).
