Build a Caesar Cipher - Step 16

Tell us what’s happening:

def caesar(text, shift):
if true:
return Shift must be an integer value.

question: Do I need to define the string before applying return? Not a whole lot in the lesson prior about return.

Your code so far

# User Editable Region

def caesar(text, shift):
    if true:
        return Shift must be an integer value.

# User Editable Region

    alphabet = 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'
    shifted_alphabet = alphabet[shift:] + alphabet[:shift]
    translation_table = str.maketrans(alphabet + alphabet.upper(), shifted_alphabet + shifted_alphabet.upper())
    return text.translate(translation_table)

encrypted_text = caesar('freeCodeCamp', 3)
print(encrypted_text)

Two things here:

  1. true does not equal True in your condition
  2. how do you make a string in your return statement?
