I dont understand , can someone explain what item is

hey @erikdaniel650,

the item is just a number that you have to add to end of the array, then you need to take the number from the start of the array and return it.

then why would you put return next to arr.shift() wouldnt that just return nothing cause it took it away

arr.shift() will be the first item of the array if you console.log it and this is what the function needs to return, shift also changes the original array too.

let arr = [1,2,3,4]
let first = arr.shift()
console.log(first) // 1
console.log(arr) // [2,3,4]
