Neat. Where did you get them?

I used to find agates near where I grew up. I don’t know where they are, but I have a small collection somewhere. I’ll share a picture if I come across them.

Aren’t that minerals though?

These colorful rocks are really beautiful, and they look smooth. Did you polish them? I remember one year I picked up some nice stones by the sea. I brought them with me when I moved, but now I’ve forgotten where I put them.

i purchased them at a wildlife safari!!!

mineral is to rock
as
square is to rectangle~

minerals are just really pretty rocks!!!

i bought these ones polished! when i was a wee tot i had a rock tumbler and used to polish my own rocks but it was so noisy even in the garage that i could not sleep

Nice, thank you for Sharing. I too have some rock collection.

Your first rock looks like pyrite crystal.

I pick up rocks that I like when I’m out walking. Earth treasures.

Here are three of the latest:

All rocks are made up of minerals.
But minerals are not rocks.

Minerals depend on the purity of the chemicals. Though it is rare to find 100% with specific compounds, most contain traces of other things.

For example, pure quartz is colourless, but trace amounts of iron turn it purple to create amethyst.

The substance that sits between a rock and a mineral fits in a category called a mineraloid.

Minerals: quartz, diamond
Mineraloids: mineral-like but lacks a crystal structure
Rock: granite, basalt; made from many different minerals or mineraloids

I had to look up some of this stuff otherwise I would’ve been stuck between a rock and a hard place.
