Learn Basic JavaScript by Building a Role Playing Game - Step 65

Hello,

I am not sure about the correct syntax in this challenge. I know the way to access a particular item in an array would be the array[index] format, but a bit thrown off by the ‘location’ part and also the fact that is it location (singular) and not plural?

Your code so far

location is the function parameter. When function will be used, there will be passed a single location as an argument.

This is the example location:

{
        name: "town square",
        "button text": ["Go to store", "Go to cave", "Fight dragon"],
        "button functions": [goStore, goCave, fightDragon],
        text: "You are in the town square. You see a sign that says \"Store\"."
}

Assuming then that this object is assigned to the location variable. How would you get the first element of the location['button text'] array?

You were showing in the first post how to get item from an array. What do you get once you consider the whole location['button text'] as array?

The fact that the function isn’t hooked up to anything so you can’t log the value is a little unfortunate.

If you need to log out the parameter and your use of location["button text"] you can temporarily replace the button1.onclick = goStore with button1.onclick = goTown and click the store button to run the update function.

Hi! I was having a problem with this challenge as well:

Instructions for this step:

location["button text"] is an array with three elements. Change the button1.innerText assignment to be the first element of that array instead.

I’m trying to access the first element of the array as follows:

button1.innerText = location["button text"[0]];

However, I’m receiving an error as such:

You should access the first element of the button text property of the location argument.

Could anyone help me figure out what I might be doing incorrectly?

Edit: solved!

careful on where you are putting the [0]

hey there @33psilon

If you have a question about a specific challenge as it relates to your written code for that challenge and need some help, click the Ask for Help button located on the challenge (it looks like a question mark). This button only appears if you have tried to submit an answer at least three times.

The Ask for Help button will create a new topic with all code you have written and include a link to the challenge also. You will still be able to ask any questions in the post before submitting it to the forum.

Thank you.

redacted solution

This should work.

hey @rahulkavi, It is great that you solved the challenge, but instead of posting your full working solution, it is best to stay focused on answering the original poster’s question(s) and help guide them with hints and suggestions to solve their own issues with the challenge.

We are trying to cut back on the number of spoiler solutions found on the forum and instead focus on helping other campers with their questions and definitely not posting full working solutions.
