i don’t understand what exactly i’m asked to do here

So the directions tell you

“Add the variable --building-color1 you created in the previous step as the value of the background-color property of the .bb1a class.”

In the last step you created this variable. You are now assigning this variable to the background-color in your .bb1a class. So you want to use the variable instead of whatever color the background-color currently has.

To use the variable you would
“To use a variable, put the variable name in parentheses with var in front of them like this: var(--variable-name)
