In the explanation, we are dealing with the past continuous tense. In that case, shouldn’t the sentence “I was worried about that” be “I was worrying about that”?

Both are referring to a time in the past . If the present tense it would be I am worried.

My mistake. Worried in this sentence is adjective not verb, right?

I see what you mean. According to this link the past continuous is made up of the past tense and the ing form of a word.
