Learn String Manipulation by Building a Cipher - Step 1

Tell us what’s happening:

The code I input isn’t working what am I doing wrong? See below:

variable_name = number;
var number = 5;

It keeps saying it’s incorrect and I can’t figure it out for the life of me. I’ve checked elsewhere but everyone seems to be having different issues from me, or I missed a similar question.

Your code so far

# User Editable Region

variable_name = number;
var number = 5;

Hi there! Look at the example:

variable_name = value

You have to

Create a variable called number and assign the value 5 to your new variable.

So following this example your new variable_name is number and value is 5

You’re almost done it, but no need for var, it’s Python, not JavaScript

And yes, remove this line from your code, it’s just an example:
variable_name = value

Hi there :slightly_smiling_face:
As @Ray13 said you do not need to use the var keyword when declaring a variable in python.
You do not need to use semicolons at the end of a statement in python.
