Learn String Manipulation by Building a Cipher - Step 42

Tell us what’s happening:

text = ‘Hello World’
shift = 3
alphabet = ‘abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz’
encrypted_text = ‘’

for char in text.lower():
if char == ‘’:
print(‘space!’)
index = alphabet.find(char)
new_index = index + shift
encrypted_text += alphabet[new_index]
print(‘char:’, char, ‘encrypted text:’, encrypted_text)

i have tried the advice in the previously answered questions but it is not working…

First of all, you need to use the right indentation. Each indented block should be shifted of 4 spaces towards the right.
Then, you are not comparing char with a space, but an empty string.

Check on the indentation of the print statement. It should be equal to 4 spaces or 1 tab, with that the code should work.
