Learn String Manipulation by Building a Cipher - Step 49

Tell us what’s happening:

I’m struggling with the indenting even though I think I have everything indented, I tried using pass because it didn’t work but nothing has really worked yet. Does anyone know where I’m going wrong?

Your code so far

text = 'Hello Zaira'
shift = 3
    def caesar():
        alphabet = 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'
        encrypted_text = ''
    for char in text.lower():
        if char == ' ':
            encrypted_text += char
        else:
            index = alphabet.find(char)
            new_index = (index + shift) % len(alphabet)
            encrypted_text += alphabet[new_index]
        print('plain text:', text)
        print('encrypted text:', encrypted_text)

do not indent this

also the for loop should be at the same level as encrypted_text, the things inside the loop should be more indented instead

hello, I’ve made an attempt, got help from people in real life and from what I know it might be a bug.

The step works for me.
what is your code now?

It turns out I had no paragraphing going on.
it was a fluke on my end
