Learn String Manipulation by Building a Cipher - Step 58

Tell us what’s happening:

why this code is wrong?I need to increment key index by one.

Your code so far

text = 'Hello Zaira'
custom_key = 'python'

def vigenere(message, key):
    key_index = 0
    alphabet = 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'
    encrypted_text = ''

    for char in message.lower():

# User Editable Region

        # Append space to the message
        if char == ' ':
            encrypted_text += char
            key_char = key[key_index += 1 % len(key)+

# User Editable Region

            index = alphabet.find(char)
            new_index = (index + offset) % len(alphabet)
            encrypted_text += alphabet[new_index]

The instructions: “… use the addition assignment operator to increment key_index by one…”

The addition assignment += should be applied to the key_index variable, in the next code line. The given code line: key_char = key[key_index % len(key)] shouldn’t be changed.
