Looking for guidance : from Engineering Graduate to a Career in Programming

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing well. I’m writing to ask for your guidance in helping me find the right path I’m looking for. I’m trying to learn programming and make it a stable source of income so that I can support myself and build a living from it.

I previously graduated from a Mechatronics Engineering program, but I did not end up working in that field. At this stage of my life, I feel that programming is what I need. I genuinely enjoy problem solving, but I struggle a bit with consistency and maintaining a regular study routine.

Because of that, I’ve been thinking about enrolling in a paid coding bootcamp such as App Academy or Fullstack Academy. Do you have any advice or recommendations for someone in my situation?

Thank you in advance for your time and support.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum!

Yes joining a coding bootcamp will really help you understand the concepts. To make you a better programmer you need to practice a lot. Try some online coding platforms such as LeetCode, HunchView, CoderPad, HackerRank, CoderByte and practice lot of coding problems. This will help you familiarize yourself with problem solving and good hands on experience.

Have a small goals rather than long study sessions. For example, committing to 60–90 minutes per day, focusing on one concept at a time, and building small projects helps to produce better long-term results than sporadic intensive study.

Focus on fundamentals such as one programming language, basic data structures, version control (Git), and simple end-to-end projects. This will help more than the specific path chosen. Employers tend to value demonstrable skills and projects.

Hope it helps!
