You didnt include your code so im not sure what went wrong.
but the task seems clear
there’s pseudo selectors that help you save time and do alot more in css
like hover before after … etc

creating a before pseudo selector for lets say div will be like this:

div::before {
  content: "";
  display: ;
}

If i may … i suggest you watch this video by Kevin he will explain it better than i could ever do
