Its very easy to understand:

vw = viewport width (The width of the visible area)
10vw = 10% of the visible area

vh = viewport height (The height of the visible area)
10vw = 10% of the visible area

if the viewport has a 100px height and 50px width then 10vmin is 10% of the width because the width is smaller than the height so if you do 10vmax it will be 10% of the height
