Review JavaScript Fundamentals by Building a Gradebook App - Step 4

Tell us what’s happening:

// running tests
3. Your studentMsg function should return the correct message based on the student’s score and the class average.
// tests completed
// console output
Class average: 71.7. Your grade: F. You failed the course.

Can someone please help. I’ve gotten the code correct but I keep seeing the above message on the console

Your code so far

function getAverage(scores) {
  let sum = 0;

  for (const score of scores) {
    sum += score;
  }

  return sum / scores.length;
}

function getGrade(score) {
  if (score === 100) {
    return "A++";
  } else if (score >= 90) {
    return "A";
  } else if (score >= 80) {
    return "B";
  } else if (score >= 70) {
    return "C";
  } else if (score >= 60) {
    return "D";
  } else {
    return "F";
  }
}

function hasPassingGrade(score) {
  return getGrade(score) !== "F";
}

function studentMsg(totalScores, studentScore) {
  let sum = 0; // Initialize sum to 0
  const numberOfScores = totalScores.length; // Get the number of scores

  // Calculate the sum using a for loop
  for (let i = 0; i < numberOfScores; i++) {
    sum += totalScores[i]; // Add each score to the sum
  }

  const classAverage = sum / numberOfScores; // Calculate the average
  const roundedAverage = Math.round(classAverage * 10) / 10; // Round to one decimal place
  const studentGrade = getGrade(studentScore); // Get student's letter grade
  const passed = hasPassingGrade(studentScore); // Check if student passed

  // Construct the message
  let message = "Class average: " + roundedAverage + ". Your grade: " + studentGrade + ". ";
  message += passed ? "You passed the course." : "You failed the course.";

  return message; // Return the constructed message
}
console.log(studentMsg([92, 88, 12, 77, 57, 100, 67, 38, 97, 89], 37));

Hi there and welcome to our community!

You don’t need to round the classAverage. If you just feed classAverage directly into your return message, your code should pass.
