Are apprenticeships worth it?

Hi, I am 30 yrs old and have decided to change careers from teaching to software development. I have no experience with coding, I am just self teaching using ‘Udemy’ online atm (really enjoying it). I was hoping to start an apprenticeship if I get accepted at my age, is this the best path? I want to avoid returning to uni, but I am willing to work hard and put the effort in.
Thank you!

I live in the US, where apprenticeships aren’t common practice, so I don’t know a lot about what the term usually means. What I have seen from 5 years in this community is that things calling themselves “apprenticeships” can vary dramatically from good programs for underserved communities to exploitation.

Thanks for your reply. In the UK, an apprenticeship is where you combine study (1 day a week usually) and working hands-on in the specific job with mentors etc the rest of the week. A low salary but getting the experience of the industry.
