Basic JavaScript - Stand in Line

Tell us what’s happening:

I figured something out, but I’m having trouble with returning a number with a non-empty array.

Your code so far

function nextInLine(arr, item) {
  // Only change code below this line
  arr.push(item);
  arr.shift(arr[0]);
  return item;
  // Only change code above this line
}

// Setup
let testArr = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5];

// Display code
console.log("Before: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));
console.log(nextInLine(testArr, 6));
console.log("After: " + JSON.stringify(testArr));

Basic JavaScript - Stand in Line

Hello @KoduFCC !
I do not get your question, can you explain more?

For the cases nextInLine([2], 1) and nextInLine([5,6,7,8,9], 1) should return 1 and 5 respectively.

Hi there!

For the challenge step, .shift() didn’t need any argument, Remove that argument. Assign your shifted arr arr to item.
