Career change in early/mid 40s - I think I know what I want

I’ve worked continuously for the last 25 years (bar a years mistake going back to college), mostly in admin/finance based roles, some excel (general formulas, pivot tables and data manipulation), integration of users to software packages, learning tools, HR systems.

It’s not a focussed role, and I feel like a change and clear path is what I need.

I want to earn a little more money (£25k atm), but its not my main focus, I’m not looking for something super highly pressurised, just want to enjoy what I do and earn a comfortable living.

I think what I want to do is full stack, with a focus on becoming a back end developer. I’m not a very creative person and a semi-semi professional introvert so front end, designer roles etc just wouldn’t fit that well I dont think. I have also checked out data engineer but that seems high pressured.

Of course there’s going to be some pressure in any job but, a not head exploding level would be desirable!

I’m UK based but due to where I live, being a homeowner and a disability, any job opportunities outcomes would be online preferably.

I guess what I’m looking for advice on is :-

Would another role suit the experience I have and what I want next better than a FS/BE developer?
Online and part time bootcamp course suggestions? I’ve read a lot about Northcoders, General Assembly, Springboard and Careerfoundry, mostly seem reputable from what I’ve read.

Maybe a little disjointed this post, but if anyone can suggest a career (or careers) that fit around the above needs or point me in the direction of specific pathways, that would be great.

I was talking with my wife other day about how future may ( or would ) look like and what kind of education should we give to our son. ( We are from India by the way )

This talk was after Tesla’s last week earnings call. Do check out specifically about Elon’s comments on “Humanoid Robots”

So you’ve got 25 years of solid “domain knowledge” and I would suggest it to use for “Humanoid” training purpose

Do check out job pages of figure ai, huggingface and any other humanoid robots startups in UK / EU.

IMO you should learn skills to fit into this new technology world rather than traditional IT world.

All the very best

@chrisc34 also check Google “ARK Invest Big Ideas” or click ARK Invest Big Ideas 2025 paper

I do read them from last few years just to understand how technology is shaping western world and China as well.
