Creating a forum on my own

Hi, i have a project in mind that is creating a forum. I think it is very good practice project because it does have every thing in it. One of my concern is how to create the part where you write down your message with all the options for make up your text (…) ? For exemple, here on freecodecamp, what technology do they use ?

If you search for Discourse forums, you can find how to set it up. There are other forum services as well, but it’s been a long time since I tinkered with one.
