Forum roles- what is important and useful to know as a general user

I kind of feel it is likely this information must be somewhere I cannot locate it. I could try to explain what I want to know specifically but I think let just stick to answering the title broadly for now, “Forum roles- what is important and useful to know as a general user” that or ask me questions.

Hi,
Are you asking about roles or rules?
There are no specific roles worth noting in the forum, what is your interest in that?

As for rules:

Note that there are some additional expectations that you can learn about by being a regular reader here (example: do not necropost, do not post solutions)

What I asking about is the distinction between Forum Staff, Administrator, Moderator and leaders is important for to know include with differences in powers are helpful to know. For a specific question that made me decide to start this thread but I considered so in the past, could a message to say a post to say a “flagged post has been removed by staff” included moderators. Finally on a side point this thread was initially removed I would appreciate a reason.

For day to day stuff there isn’t a great distinction, all have power to moderate the forum, and the software call as “staff”

Moderators is the set of people that includes volunteers and staff.
(and are able to moderate the forum such as accepting or rejecting flags or the usual moderation that people do on online social platforms)

Staff are the paid employees of freeCodeCamp and can also act as moderators.

The other roles i am unaware of. The only role that you didn’t ask about is the community manager who basically manages all the communities that belong to freecodecamp.

Your post was flagged because the way it was phrased was not clear and it was initially assumed that you were asking a frivolous question. I think part of the reason for this (you’ve had other posts that were flagged before) is because of your phrasing and how you end with ‘ask me questions’. Forgive me, but sometimes your questions come across as time wasters. (that they don’t come from a real question but rather from someone who just wants to chat - if you do want to chat btw, the best place to do so is the discord server - the forum doesn’t really support that type of back and forth very easily)

In any case, your post was restored after the moderators discussed it.

I will address the post deletion matter in this comment. I decided when I was writing it to keep it concise and broad unlike my typical style. I also felt there was a risk by being too specific that something I had not specifically asked but would appreciate knowing at least in hindsight would not have been said. However I probably at least in reflection should have at least included the term Forum Staff, Administer, Moderators, and maybe leader in the thread content, particularly since it became clear many if not all people reading this did not know what I meant by roles. I will also say the post was not written when I was not the most let say switched on, so probably would have be better written in a different mindset. As side point to this it has crossed by mind, while I have been away from forum that the title of this thread should probably be changed but it is too late for me to and anyway I am unsure what to change it to. I was thinking about changing roles to positions and maybe adding something like “e.g. Administrators”. What I am thinking is it would help people to finding this thread in future when wondering the same thing. Of course this fairly moot if it is decided this information should added to what I will refer to here as forum information.
Finally to address my reasons for posting, which I am not sure is in question, while I accept what I asked for is not necessary know (maybe with expectation of can moderators be referred to as staff) I would considered it helpful to know and has caused confusion to me in addition to a question I am sure many others have had and will have.

I decided to comment on my first comment as this is kind of a reply to multiple posts. I would appreciate in basic terms to understand what the roles I mentioned are. However if you agree with what I going to say about the following three that is enough for me. In a sense all administrators are also moderators and all freeCodeCamp Staff also administrators and therefore moderators. “freeCodeCamp Staff” are paid and have responsibilities with freeCodeCamp outside the forum. That leave Leaders (such as @Teller) the only one I am unsure about. Is true to say for the purpose of replies to standard forum posts (e.g. my mistakes with course and “general sub-forum” post) there such be treated like any moderator.

Teller is also a moderator, the title you see of “freeCodeCamp Staff” or “Leader” or the symbols on the avatars, those can be personalized between a list available. Like right now I have removed mine, for example.

The only thing that you can be sure about is the shield symbol next to the username image

That shield means moderator: image

Thankyou I think that clarifies it, I knew teller was a moderator I just was not sure if all were or if there was some benefit to be in understanding he was a leader aswell.
