You’ve already built your website or SaaS product, and now you need to show people how it works. You record a quick 2-minute walkthrough, but then comes the frustrating part. You have to remove mistakes and awkward pauses, cut out unnecessary parts, zoom in on important areas, add a voiceover, add captions, and make sure everything feels smooth. What should have been a simple tutorial can easily turn into hours of editing.
We ran into the same problem while creating tutorials and product walkthroughs for our own software. We kept thinking there had to be a better way to turn a simple screen recording into something people could actually follow without spending hours inside a video editor. That frustration eventually led us to build StepVideo.
The idea behind StepVideo is pretty simple. You record your screen naturally, and StepVideo analyzes what’s happening in the recording, including clicks, scrolling, page changes, and other actions. It then uses that information to automatically create smart zooms, remove mistakes and unnecessary pauses, and add AI voiceovers and captions. The goal is to take care of the repetitive editing work so you can focus on explaining your product instead of constantly cutting and rearranging clips.
We’re still improving StepVideo, but building it has also made us think a lot about how software tutorials are created.
