How to add ES6 to VSC ?
ES6 is just the name of the most recent version of JavaScript. You shouldnât need to add anything.
ES6 is not the most recent version of JS for sure, is 2015 one I think.
Use Gulp or Webpack to transform your code with babel.
Fair enough. The most recent significant revision (from a syntax perspective) I suppose is what I meant.

What does this mean, beyond the obvious I mean.

By default, JSHint uses ES5 (I think) as a baseline (whatever was the ES version 10 years ago I guess). You need to specify youâre using a newer version in the config:

Youâre probably going to get some issues (as an example, JSLint only added support for ES2017 last year). I realise youâre finding ESlint has too many options*, but youâre trying to switch to a linter that isnât really used much nowadays (it was great ten years ago, but that was ten years ago).
* (which you can use as few or as many as you want, you can literally delete them in the config)
When I do a Google search a handful of linters pops including usually ESLint and JSHint.
JS lint seemed like I couldnt figure out how to use it.
I think I already asked you what linter to use for obvious syntax errors without getting too fancy ?
And I said, use ESLint, it has the most support. You should be able to just have a config file like:

This is what was added to my project folder when I did the install as per the instructions on the ESLint website.
Does it look right ? are these the rules I can override ? are there other syntax rules that are not listed here, like the ones for errors that are âbreakableâ to the code running properly ?
I mean, thatâs every single rule you could possibly have, all set to error. You could just delete everything except the "extends": "eslint:recommended", line and it will probably be fine. ESLint just looks at that config file and for every rule, will do what it says. Which is error.
ESLint comes with a large number of rules. You can modify which rules your project uses either using configuration comments or configuration files. To change a rule setting, you must set the rule ID equal to one of these values:
"off"or0- turn the rule off"warn"or1- turn the rule on as a warning (doesnât affect exit code)"error"or2- turn the rule on as an error (exit code is 1 when triggered)
What options have you selected when you ran the init script? Because if I pick some standard options, I get (for example)

Note that the rules field is empty: the rules you add there override the default settings. Itâs your config, you can override anything you want, but what your config says is âuse the recommended settings, then override every single rule to make sure ESLint causes an error instead of being ignored or warningâ. And Iâve tried several different permutations here, I am unsure how youâve managed to create this insanely strict config file.

Probably unwittingly during the series of questions during the installation process in the terminal as per the instructions on eslint website.
Just delete every property in ârulesâ.
Ok. Will do. what about the remaining top part ?
Will removing all the rules also stop some of the formatting / white space checking to stop?
