Hello, my dear programmers. I’m Agnius, 17 year old boy from Lithuania and I want start programming, to be specific, I wan’t to learn web development. I was trying to learn this since 14 years old, but i didn’t learn NOTHING because I didn’t put any work into it. But now I am really motivated, and because of quarantine I have a lot of free time, besides online school. So I was doing some research about where and how I can learn web development, and because bootcamp’s too expensive for my budget, I found this great opportunity at freecodecamp, so basically I was doing some exercises here at freecodecamp, basic ones. And I woke up the other day and realized that I don’t remember 80% of what I’m learning. So I’m asking all of you, maybe you had same issues with memory and what did you did? I have this memory problem not only with programming, i have this issue when I’m reading books, or watching films, and it kinda scares me, because I’m only 17 years old, and I don’t remember about what was movie I watched couple years ago. So any help from You guys would be very valuable to me. Also if you have any tips about how to learn effectively, please share, it would be very helpful. This whole web development things is entirely new for me. And sorry for broken english, I tried my best to write this. Have a good day Guys!
It’s a matter of experience and repetition. You keep doing it on a regular basis for a long time. You if you don’t remember something (or don’t know it) you look it up. Eventually you don’t have to look it up anymore.
Yeah, don’t worry about rembering everything. It’s more important to know what possible, have a vague idea of how it works, and know where to look it up. I’m looking things up all day. It gets better with time, but you’ll never memorize it all.
Hey @agniusgr
Welcome to FCC (FreeCodeCamp) !
My advice is basically just to keep practising and keep putting stuff online so someone can see how you are developing.
I made that mistake so I am just trying to help you not make the same one.
Hello, @BoCode84 what do you mean by putting stuff online? Do your own projects and put them on GitHub for example? Or what do you have in mind?
Exactly!
GitHub or even if you follow projects, you need to create your own personal portfolio so … just keep updating that
So you are saying that when I’m doing some test project, or just copying the code, or doing something similar, I can still put it on GitHub? Sorry, if my questions are dumb, just want to know how things working in coding world
No dumb question/answer in IT world
Yes, what I mean is basically anything you do, I would post it somewhere because than that way 2,3 years down the road, people can look at your profile and say “Wow, look at this guys, he started with (ie.) basic HTML coding and look at him coding now in Python”
Something like that
