Are you by any chance using Edge, IE, or Safari as your browser? Free Code Camp has been updated to use newer technologies. It makes the application much faster and it means that we can go much longer without having to do a huge migration like the recent one. However, Edge, Internet Explorer, and Safari are very bad about choosing not to adhere to standards and support new functionality in JS and CSS. Right now, that means that these browsers exhibit lots of unexpected behavior. If you become a web developer you will come to hate these browsers with every fiber of your being.
I’m led to believe that Safari has caught up enough to handle FCC now, but Edge still has problems. IE of course remains obsolete and unsupportable.
I can’t really tell what the OP’s browser is from the UA string, which apparently claims to be Chrome, Safari, and Edge. I’m guessing it’s Edge, since that’s likely the only browser that would claim to be Edge.
I’m on a Mac (El Capitan, Safari is v11). I normally use Chrome but just for giggles I tried running the first lesson like the OP and it completed successfully and quickly.
Hahaha. Yeah totally. I liked the overall look of Edge. It’s possibly the most fun to use browser because of it’s slick design. But the shadow of its former self (Internet Explorer) still hangs over it.
