Open-source project and website - financial world!

Hi everyone!

I’ve been a long-time member of the FCC community, and owe many of the things I’ve learnt of the web development world to its great curriculum and project-based learning.

As a beginner starting out in the world of programming, I was often eager to get “hands on” experience by working on an open-source project. However, everything I found seemed daunting and unfriendly, and I was always scared to begin contributing.

Plenty of time has passed (well, “plenty”), and now I’ve started my own open-source project: PyAlgosim! It is a Python-built algorithmic trading backtester, aimed at amateur investors who are interested in the world of quantitative finance and want to give their trading strategies a try with real, hard data. If this sounds like you, then I invite you to by all means try it!

FCC doesn’t have a Python curriculum yet, but if you’re learning the language (awesome language, by the way) then trying it out or contributing might help you along your way. I’m open to any suggestions or contributions! Also, I’ve created a website for it (also open-source), and any feedback or suggestions are welcome.

In the long run, I’d like to make PyAlgosim a web-based application, allowing you to test your strategies in the cloud!

Thanks for checking it out.
