Options to start a business?

I completed a physical bootcamp years ago, and completed individual Coursera and FCC courses to become a fullstack dev during the first lockdowns and looking for a direction to start a business.
It’s too hard for me to work on anything like website design or services, or anything like networking or maintaining backends and similar mundane repetitive tasks. The way I see it the best option for me would be to create my own solution for free and provide support for it, while all the non-core aspects of the business outsourced. In which direction should I be heading? My main interest is zero knowledge proofs.

You mean … programming?

Come up with a great idea for which there is a need but for which no one has offered a solution. Put together a good team: coding, UI/UX, business, etc. Figure out a way to monetize it.

Are you fishing for brilliant ideas? I think that most people, if they come up with a great idea, would not want to give it away. I think you’ll have to come up with your own great idea. Or find someone else and help them. But if you don’t like coding, you’ll have to think of something else to bring to the table.

I’ve seen a few developers/tech-people do this, there are a number of free products out there that use this business model so it can work.

I’m not sure what you mean by “outsourced”, but depending on what your business focuses on, outsourcing too much of it could lead to problems. Its one thing to “outsource” the “business” aspects, while you focus on the key components, its another to try to build a business in a pinch with a variety of contributors without a clear focus on the actual key components. That way you’ll end up with “too many hands in the pot” and your business will suffer as it wont have a clearly executed vision.

I’m honestly not sure how/if you can monetize something like this. It’s possible, I just don’t understand the concept well enough to offer any advice.

One of the main advantages of running your own business is flexibility. You can easily steer your business toward the goals you want to achieve. So you could easily “find” the market with such ideas, or similar adjacent ones. However, there’s always a lot of risk and work running your own business, so make sure you understand the sort of risks you are taking.

Good luck, keep building, keep learning

Thanks for your comments.
It sounds like you aren’t optimistic about the prospects for starting a business (and later maintaining it…).
For someone looking for an income from a digital business, you’d say it’s better to take which path? I read on r/learnprogramming many comments saying the job market is in very high demand for experts with proven experience but saturated in entry roles because anyone could take a course online but every quality position requires expertise which businesses don’t want to spend time training newbies on, so this gets tricky because expertise in a skill which can’t be replicated easily and fast requires a lot of sacrifice and risk on part of the worker.
Also I have to say it’s getting increasingly hard and almost impossible to concentrate for hours learning material online because of distractions. For me it’s almost the first priority to pick a subject which can be learned from a book, which is why a work which mostly involves developing the algorithm would be better.

This would be hard enough if you were a great coder or had a great idea or were a great businessman. But from what you’ve written, it sounds like you don’t have any of these. If it were that easy, everyone were doing it. It sounds like you’re looking for a get rich quick scheme. FCC doesn’t do that. We help people “work hard, invest the time, and probably eventually get a great job”.

Are you asking to start a digital business or learn to code? This site is about helping people learn to code, not start businesses.

That’s kind of true. But there are ways to get experience and build portfolios and there are places that hire people - I am one of them. What you wrote is kind of right, but is an exaggeration.

Also I have to say it’s getting increasingly hard and almost impossible to concentrate for hours learning material online because of distractions.

Well, you’ll run into the same issues starting a business. If you want to succeed in life, you may want to address that.

For me it’s almost the first priority to pick a subject which can be learned from a book, which is why a work which mostly involves developing the algorithm would be better.

OK… but you’re not going to get a job as a non-coding expert in algorithm theory. At some point you have to code. Even if you code, I don’t think “algorithm expert” is a job. A lot of (maybe most) coding jobs do not require broad algorithm knowledge. Most will just require certain ones on certain subject matters. Some won’t require anything beyond the most basic.
