So I noticed that there is a new section called " Certified Full Stack Developer Curriculum". I have been doing what is now the archived coursework, am I supposed to ditch doing that and do the full stack developer thing or do I keep doing what I’ve been doing? I already finished the whole responsive web design certification and I started the Javascript algorithms and Data structures, I am wondering if I should do the full stack course since I’ve been doing what is now “archived coursework”. Also, will I still get a certification for each topic if I end up doing the full stack program? And do y’all recommend me doing that instead of what I’ve been doing? I want to be a software engineer by the way, in case that helps y’all give me a recommendation.
The Full stack cert is the recommended course which is why it was moved to the top of the page and the others where moved to the bottom. It has a lot more theory, projects and incorporates a lot of the feedback on ways to make the curriculum stronger.
The JavaScript section in the full stack cert has a lot of the same projects as the archived JS cert. But the Full stack cert JavaScript section moves at a better pace and has a better structure. So I would advise the full stack cert.
No. There is only one certification and that happens after the capstone project and final exam. There are no more smaller certifications like with the archived Responsive cert and old JS certs.
But honestly, everyone who was self taught with freeCodeCamp and other sources that got developer jobs (including myself), were able to get jobs by building a strong foundation in the fundamentals, and building tons of projects (including ones outside of freeCodeCamp)
You can learn more about that in Quincy’s book here
Hope that helps!
Thank you for the insight! I think I’m going to finish the project that I am currently working on (the role playing game) and then do the full-stack course. When I finish that I might go back and do the rest of the projects in the archived section, y’all have no plans of completely getting rid of what is in the archived section right?
It will eventually go away, but freeCodeCamp usually keeps the last “legacy” material for a long time to allow anyone who started it plenty of time to finish.
at one point it will not be possible to claim the certifications anymore. The lessons themselves will persist far longer than that
Sorry, I haven’t been on the forum as much recently, but if you already have a certification, will it still be valid/usable?
at this time the plan is that eventually certifications will have an expiration date, so to promote continuos learning, but at this time this is still not a thing
