I’m currently studying a Master of Data Science and completed my Bachelor of IT in 2024. Late last year, I left my customer service job to pursue a career in tech, but breaking in has been harder than expected. Looking back, I wish I had done more in my final year of undergrad, so starting my Masters felt like the right way to make up for lost time and strengthen my profile.
During my placement, I worked with Power Apps and got to explore various areas of tech throughout my first degree. I’m now at a crossroads trying to narrow down a direction. The roles I find myself gravitating toward are Data Analytics, Business Analysis, Tech Consulting, Digital Forensics, and AI & Power Apps Development.
I wouldn’t call myself a strong coder, though I’ve recently been exploring vibe coding and finding it genuinely interesting. As someone who is quite introverted, networking has also been a challenge. Any advice for breaking into tech in a competitive market with limited experience would be really appreciated, particularly around which skills or certifications are worth prioritising.
