Position fixed takes the element out of the normal document flow, just like position absolute. You have to create the position and spacing yourself as the element no longer interacts with other elements (it doesn’t push elements and it isn’t pushed by elements). For two side-by-side elements, you have a few options. One is to give the main element a side margin that is the same as the width of the fixed element.
