Use the reduce Method to Analyze Data (item.Director)

One thing I can’t figure out is the use of “.Director” to retrieve the object?

What exactly is not clear for you?

item['Director'] might have been used alternatively, but in this example there’s no difference in result. Take a look at challenge https://www.freecodecamp.org/learn/javascript-algorithms-and-data-structures/object-oriented-programming/use-dot-notation-to-access-the-properties-of-an-object

Okay, tested it works. Sorry, from what I know when it is a string you need to use and dot only works for non-string objects.

Things are getting more confusing in Functional Programming. It’s not as straight forward as it seems.

I think you might have mistaken situation when variable is used to pass the key.

let n = 'NumLegs';
let dog = {
    name: "Spot",
    'NumLegs': 4
};
console.log(dog.n, dog.name) //undefined Spot
console.log(dog[n], dog.name) //4 Spot
