Time to give WhatsApp a better chance when it comes to communities?
the moderation tooling is still too incomplete for whatsapp to be a viable platform for community at scale, imho~

No I don’t think whatsapp will become the big thing. Discord was dumb for the age verification stuff but it has everything. Whatsapp is like gen x and discord is gen z (no offense to gen x you guys have Winona Ryder so…).

I don’t understand why WhatsApp used phone numbers as unique identifiers in the first place. I suppose instant access to app contacts meant friends were already listed.
Though this raises lots of privacy and security issues.
The problem with usernames is that different people share names. Then you have to include numbers and symbols, to make your handle unique.
One username could be Jane_Doe, then next J4ne_Doe, then J4ne_Do3, then J4n3_D03, then what? Jane_Doe_123456
With two billion users, I think WhatsApp should spend some time finding a better way, or someone else will.

apparently because i administrate the freecodecamp “community” or “group” or whatever it is called
all members can see my phone number? in this public space~
