37 years old developer needs some advice :)

Hi,

This is Rajiv from india, i had done MCA in 2005 ,

Then i did a job on java in a small company for about a year worked on jsp and struts framework there

then i did Oracle certified associate in 2008 … i started a company of my own with 4 partners in 2009, i also did some projects in .NET …

We made games using Action Script 3,then in 2015 , thing went downward and business collapsed …

Now if i am looking for a good job people expect me to be some kind of genius who should know everything…

In reality my knowledge is scattered, some bits here and some there…

Now i have started a fresh giving myself a new start …

I want to go for HTML,CSS,javascript, PHP,MYsql and Angular …Is this a right decision …I have joined FCC just 2 days back , along with ebooks on above topics i will also study here …

I will do my own work and i just want to know if as a freelancer or some one who wants to have own business this is the right technology to pick ?

I want to know at this stage of my career is this a correct decision ? kindly guide…

I ask as i have no time to waste now …

Thanks in advance for your advice …

Regards
Rajiv

What you learn is all personal choice, although having technologies that fits together is a wise move. However do look at jobs around where you live as that may alter the sequence in which you learn.

@darpots - thanks a lot for the reply, i am more looking for a web development business of my own, is HTML,CSS,javascript, Angular2 a good choice …

Also i will be doing the code camp course along with e books on these topics…

I feel comfortable with database as have done Oracle certification …

Thanks

Rajiv

HTML5 + CSS3 + JavaScript (version ES8 now) is the trifecta of web development. So those 3 for sure. As for frameworks you will find many different opinions. Angular and React are the big ones, but I suggest you stick with learning js well enough before diving into frameworks - again, opinions differ about this; some would argue to learn a framework right away (I personally disagree). In your case it sounds like you’re in a rush to get work in the field so maybe just pick one and dive in. I suggest you do some research by looking at what employers in your area are looking for in job applicants.
You mentioned MySQL - maybe do some research on different types of databases. No SQL databases like MongoDB and Redis are very popular these days. I’m not saying they’re better, I’m saying check them out before jumping into SQL type DBs.

@Soupedenuit - thanks a lot, yes i will go through HTML,CSS and javascript first, then angular and then will pick a database…

Thanks in particular to mention No Sql here, i never thought in that direction…
