Bonjour,
Bonne chance !
I am 41 years and even though I have some IT background but I am currently study FreeCode Camp and
the ODIN Projects because I want switch careers so its never too late. You just have to be focused and learn everyday in bits. Trust me you will get there.

My granparents are close to 90 and they are using whatssap and learning how to use the computer. If they can then you can :3
Hey Laughing, did you per chance get laid off from a government contract? Also kudos! Glad you’re getting back in Things are really really different from the 90s! Very fun and exciting especially if you enjoyed flash animation.
My fellow mates who are feeling that it is to late to learn coding. I found a diamond in the rough. I just get into listening to podcast and as I was `thumbing though spofiy. I was wondering if FCC had a podcast and like magic i met
Abby. Let’s just call her dear Abby. A little encouragement goes a long way. If your train has jumped the track. Abby will get you going again. The dear Abby podcast you would be looking for was published Apr 9, 2018 called Here’ an epic heat down. No spoiler here. Enjoy sign -let’s do this! Ps let me know your thoughts.
43 años por acá, diseñador web y ahora estudiando JS, quiero ser un buen frontend, y la edad no me importa, solo quiero ser mejor en esto y sentirme realizado haciendo proyectos entretenidos
I’m 51 but don’t have plans to switch careers. However I totally get your desire to come home and knock out curriculum! I spend my coding time working on my own ideas and apps after having done Mist of the projects here. You can also consider freelancing for yourself
Checking in,…so a year later NW_Browncoat, are you still at it?
Your story is inspiring… Great
Started with dos, and basic, then html, one, two, three, four and five, 25 plus years later, I get to sit down and learn, javascript. I always wanted to learn Java script. Interesting, challenging. Don’t really expect to become an expert in it. Just want to learn it. I put webpages on the internet with the first public servers, channel 1, addr, way before google and yahoo even existed. I had to teach myself “How to broadcast to the world”. There were no prefab sites like “go daddy” to help. No chat rooms, no Aol, no colorful ads, no facebook. Interesting to me to see the changes, that have happened on the internet, through all these years.
One thing has stayed the same, I am still fascinated by code. I am 67.
not sure what you are talking about here can you explain please???
At a guess, by “I just know there’s a place for us”, the meaning is “we are still relevant to the web development world, even as older programmers.”
As to the rest, I agree with it completely. I just turned 50 on new years eve, I’m working hard at getting back into the industry professionally, and I know I have quite a lot to offer to the right company.
For me, for most of us, giving up is not an option. I’m not taking the easy way out, I’m sticking the course. And as @everyday_runner sez, we stick it best by sticking together, helping one another through.
Personally, today, right now, my thought is “Someone would be crazy NOT to learn this at 50!” I mean, what are the other options?
- Give up.
- Try to learn it in another thirty years.
Nope. Stick with it, lean on this great, supportive community, and keep on pushing through!
@snowmonkey is right!
In my post, I was offering support to @NW_Browncoat, who is considering switching to a career in tech at age 52. This thread is for all of us who are older and wiser and looking to learn something new and make a change. Let’s support each other and keep updating as we find our new places.
Ask them, “The computer doesn’t care how old I am, why should you?”
Hi, I’m from Russia, I don’t really know English, and I’m 45. I guess I’m not the craziest person here or … Starting Javascript today!
49 years old here. Been going at it for about 5 years. Love it! Think it’s great for my mind and creativity.
If any of you older folks want to code together some time, just let me know. We can do it together on CodePen in the Collab mode.
I’m happy to do short (hour-long) HTML and CSS projects as well as JavaScript and React projects. Let me know. I’m a student but also see the advantage of trying to teach others as a way to learn.
Did you know: Projects are everywhere around you. Yes, even in that magazine you’re reading on the toilet! How can I make this same layout with HTML CSS…? Whoa! Look at that cool blinking sign in the coffee shop. I wonder how I can make that with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Find the stuff you love and make it with your code!
I’m 51, I’ve been working as an engineer in the semiconductor industry and have programming experience. I want to make web applications and don’t have experience in that.
You can definitely do it, if you can follow freecodecamp coding challenges!
I agree. I recommend starting your own business.
Hi all, I’m fairly new to FCC and the forum but I saw this thread and felt compelled to contribute. I’m
61 years old and I started learning front end web dev 4 months ago. I’m planning on retiring from a long career later this year so I don’t need a “paying job”, but I wanted to pursue an encore career which is challenging, interesting and where I can still contribute to the greater good. I already have my first job redesigning a WordPress site for a nonprofit. My point is, if any of you need a real life coding project to put on your resume, look for a non-profit or a local small business that needs help. It’s win-win.
