I’m cloning some templates to practice and want to know if it’s a good idea to put it in my portfolio because I have nothing to show

It’s better than nothing. It shows that you know the basics of design and layout. That’s not nothing. If you had some actually coding in there too, it would be nice.
Do you have no coding samples? Have you not done any of the FCC challenges?
Put together the best portfolio you can. And keep adding to it.

I use a bit of javascrpt / jquery, such as add a smooth scrolling, slideshows, and some basic animations.
sometimes the template has something that I do not know so I have to get a look at the source code, but I’ve learned a lot from that.
