Easiest Question Ever (Visualize Data with a Bar Chart)

Tell us what’s happening:
Have gone through the data visualization curriculum however, upon starting the projects I am a bit confused on how to render d3 to the HTML. I have a super basic example and am looking for someone to set me straight on what exactly I am missing. I’m sure it is incredibly obvious.

All I’m looking to do here is render a p element with the text “hi” in it to the page:
