Friendly Career Advice needed

Hello to everyone,

this is my first post here and I’d like to ask for some career advices.
I am 29 have studied computer science 10 years ago, I have always wanted to become a software developer, but I was not able to complete the bachelor due to undiagnosed ADD and also lacking some maths skills.
In school, due to my lack of focus, I have never become a great programmer, I was always either able to find the solution to the problem, but struggled into putting it into code or struggling in understanding the request.
Since I left the university, I became discouraged with everything, I have worked here and there in the IT field, but without improving my skills much, since the pay was always good, I didn’t bother much.
Now, I am stuck in a job I don’t like and I discovered I can’t move from it since I have no real marketable skills.
This was a real wake up call for me. And after many months of thinking and reflecting on my situation, I decided that I was done with wasting time and I wanted to seriously start to study/prepare for a future job as developer and because of that, I would like to ask you what it will be the best path I should follow.
At this point I consider myself a total beginner, I don’t want to fool myself into thinking I am better than what I really am, so I prefer start fresh and assuming I have 0 knowledge, that I don’t even know what coding means.

Thank you very much for your attention!!

Welcome to the community!

It’s never too late to make a start on changing the direction you’re life was going in.

You can get started on the curriculum here:

If you really want the ‘from scratch’ experience, just work through it in order. The projects are where the learning really takes place, but the initial challenges introduce all the main concepts.

If you get stuck, feel free to reach out here.

Happy coding!

You can do it! All the best on your new path! I would also recommend to start reading books on other skills related to building a career (besides the skill set you want to get paid for). One that I can recommend is The Education of Millionaires. Good luck!

This means a lot to me! I have always thought that I was a sort of too stupid to code, because I can read a code and tell immediately what it does, but at the same time, I would have never been able to come up with that solution. I tried several code challenges and never got a decent solution, but once I took a look at the solution, it seemed so obvious, this is why I am thinking to start from scratches, I am sure I have missed some important step back at university, and I would like to restart with the right foot this time, and also practice a lot.
