I just wanted to say hello, I’m new here, and I’m excited to start learning to code. A long time ago, when I was 18, I was super interested in a computer science degree, but had to drop out of university after 1 semester because I couldn’t pay. I basically dropped the whole idea until recently, when I stumbled across this website, and my inner teenager perked up and said, "Hey! We like this kind of thing, remember?! " I couldn’t believe that it was actually free, and I even picked through the whole site, waiting to run into a paywall.
I’m currently doing this just as a side hobby, at night after work. Even if I never transition into software development (although that would be rad!), I’m doing this for 18 year old me, who really REALLY wanted that CS degree but couldn’t afford it.
Wish me luck! Also, any tips/pieces of advice are most welcome!
Hey! I just started as well! Always had a fascination with computers and programing but never actually jumped in and tried it out! So excited to get going!
HI @fizzingwhizbee !
Welcome to the forum!
As a self taught developer who transitioned into a new tech career, my main piece of advice would be to take your time learning and really learn the fundamentals well.
With a good foundation in the fundamentals, it will become difficult to keep learning and advance as a developers. Make to invest the time learning well, asking questions, and researching documentation and articles when you need further understanding on topics.
Hope that helps and good luck with your journey.
Woohoo! I’m cheering you on!
Thank you so much for the advice! I’m definitely one who tends to go too quickly and neglect really absorbing the info, so I will keep that in mind.
I am new too, I have a fairly busy life but I make sure I do at least a little bit each day. Heres to our future careers! Cheers!
