How should I combine the new Full Stack Path with the old curriculum tracks?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently doing a retraining program in Germany (Software Developer) where I’m learning HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, PHP, and some frameworks in practice blocks. In addition to that, I’m using freeCodeCamp to deepen and reinforce my knowledge.

I’ve noticed that the new Full Stack Web Development Path is not fully released yet (some sections are still in beta or missing). I’m unsure about the best way to proceed and would love your advice:

  • Should I just follow the new Full Stack Path as far as it goes and wait for the remaining sections to be released?
  • Or should I then continue with the old curriculum to avoid gaps?
  • Are the old certifications/tracks (e.g., Responsive Web Design, JavaScript Algorithms, APIs and Microservices, Data Visualization, etc.) still important to complete, even if I have already covered those topics in the new Path?
  • Would you recommend working through the old tracks as additional practice to reinforce what I’m learning?

My main goal is to have a complete and structured learning path without unnecessarily repeating content, but also without missing anything important. I also want my portfolio and certifications to show a solid, well-rounded foundation.

How would you approach this situation? Has anyone else combined the new Path with the old curriculum, and what worked best for you?

Thanks in advance!

no, it’s covered in the full stack

useful, but slightly outdated - you could go through this if you finish the released stuff for the full stack curriculum before there is backend content.

outdated or already covered in the full stack certification

no, you don’t need to go through the basics again, build your own stuff

Welcome to the forum @cwillam

There is some overlap between the archived certifications and the Full Stack Developer.

For example, some of the step based practice projects in the Responsive Web Design and JavaScript are reused in Full Stack Developer. So any workshop with an overlap will be marked as complete in the new curriculum. Note: some of the workshops may have updated steps.

On the forum, Campers are still studying the archived JavaScript material.

  • If you have already started an archived certificate, then continue it to completion.
  • If after studying material in FSD you want to continue practicing, then find the equivalent material in the archived section. Since you know most of the material, it help will deepen your knowledge and understanding. Start with the certification projects. If you encounter any difficulties, then study the material from the beginning.

Happy coding
