How should I direct my projects? Jack of all trades or specific to a industry?

So to give some background, I’m mech eng student who want’s to pivot to the software industry. I’ve been self teaching myself computer sci concepts for last year and a half.

I’ve made some games such as ping pong and pac man. I’m currently working on making a social network website using Django, and after was planning to do some machine learning project mixed with some games. I also have some basic embedded systems experience thanks to my mech classes.

I was wondering If my projects are too scattered and instead should only be directed to 1 stream. My main interest and ideal industry is either machine learning or game development.

Thank you for any feedback

Welcome to the forum @Sliferslacker

Have you done any research into your ideal industries?

You can combine both for certain aspects of game development.

At the start of your learning journey having a broad range of projects sounds like a good idea. You’re not painting yourself into a corner, and are making yourself adaptable and agile in the process.

To make a meaningful decision you will need to spend a considerable amount of time figuring out where your passions lie.

Happy coding

If you’re a “Mechanical Branch Student” why do you wish to join IT industry ?

There are plenty of jobs in EV, Robotics, Space industries in current and coming decades as well; I can see golden days ahead for Mech engineering stream compared to IT industry.

Because I found out I really like to program
